From local projects to worldwide global operations
1950s and 1960s: ES-KO founded (originally called ‘SK’) specializing in onboard catering services to the shipping industry. The Company expanded by supplying food and non-food items to European Ports in support of its own and other organizations catering service requirements. The Company further expanded by providing logistical support services directly to client operations, mainly in Africa, the Far East and the Americas.
1970s and 1980s: ES-KO’s operations evolved into the provision of full catering and camp management services, to include operation of kitchen and canteen equipment, the hygienic storage of food and water onsite and the onward distribution to multiple site locations, within a single project.
ES-KO managed one of the world’s largest logistical and catering contracts of that time: the Trans Gabonese railway.
1988: ES-KO was awarded its first major food supply contract to support 6,000 multinational troops in Namibia.
1990s: ES-KO was awarded the food and water supply contract to 5,000 multinational Peacekeeping troops in the Former Yugoslavia. In 1995, the troop size rose to 50,000 and then to 60,000 with the addition of NATO’s Rapid Reaction Forces located throughout the Balkans – the largest military operation of its kind to date – and ES-KO’s largest ever food supply contract.
1991: Opening of ES-KO’s first Retail PX/Duty Free store in Angola.
1996: ES-KO’s Construction Business Unit was launched (then called ‘Engineering’) to which a Health Care Engineering Unit (HCE) was added in 2007.
1997: ES-KO’s Construction Business Unit was awarded its first major contract for the construction of a 500-man camp in Uzbekistan.
2000: ES-KO was awarded the contract for the full catering and camp support services to Bechtel International Inc., Croatia, for 1,200 personnel, from 2000 to 2004.
ES-KO was awarded the contract for the turnkey construction of an 8,000-man camp, Karachaganak, in Aksai, Kazakhstan.
2002: ES-KO was awarded the contract for the turnkey construction and full catering support services for a 200-man camp, Camp Aegis, in Kabul, Afghanistan.
2003: ES-KO was awarded the food supply contract to support the multinational troops in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The UN contract for Congo was extended in 2006 and continues to this day, supporting some 20,000 UN Peacekeepers.
2004: ES-KO was awarded the contract for full-line rations and all associated logistical support services to the UN Mission in Haiti (ongoing).
ES-KO was awarded the contract for the provision and management of Retail/PX facilities and services to the UN Mission in Liberia (ongoing).
ES-KO was awarded the turnkey construction contract for the provision of a 500-man camp in Nassiriyah, Iraq.
2006: ES-KO was awarded the contract for full-line rations and all associated logistical support services to the UN Missions in Cyprus, Sudan, Western Sahara and Lebanon.
ES-KO was awarded several contracts for the provision and management of PX facilities and services in Afghanistan, Burundi and Sudan.
2007: ES-KO was awarded the contract for full-line rations and all associated logistical support services for the UN Mission in East Timor (ongoing).
ES-KO was awarded the contract for the provision and management of UN PX facilities and services in Haiti and Cote d’Ivoire.
ES-KO was awarded the turnkey construction contract for the provision of a 1,000-man camp in Bastion, Afghanistan.
2008: ES-KO was awarded the contract for catering and laundry services in support of the Life Support Services Contract to the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Afghanistan (ongoing).
ES-KO also provided catering, food and water supplies, coffee and snack bar services to NATO contingents deployed in Kabul.
Today: ES-KO’s four integrated Business Units offer a turnkey solution by providing camp construction, food supply, catering and life support, full camp maintenance and all associated logistical support services to its clients, anywhere in the world. |
